The beginning of 2005 has been marked by some exciting changes at Chalmette Medical Center. Expansion and renovation projects in 2005 totaling just less than $20 million are under way or have been completed in response to St. Bernard Parish's growing healthcare service needs.

The expansion project located at the rear of the hospital is in full swing, and a $180,000 renovation project recently was completed at the professional office complex located just across the street from the main hospital at 9001 Patricia St. In Phase I of the hospital expansion to be finished by mid-summer, 30 private rooms will be added and the Intensive Care Unit will be increased to 29 beds, doubling its current capacity. The laboratory and cardiopulmonary department are also being enlarged. The professional office building at 9000 Patricia St., which houses physicians' offices, as well as CMC's hyperbarics, wound care, industrial medicine and cardiac rehab services, has undergone remodeling with new flooring, interior painting, restroom remodeling, lighting and furnishings.

CMC continues to respond to the needs of its growing patient base, thanks to the support of the St. Bernard community. More and more, people are discovering the benefits of their community hospital and want to stay in St. Bernard Parish if they don't have to leave. With the expansion, they won't have to.
